"... merely establish objectives without a significant way of bringing out makes us complicit in maintaining this status quo ... "

ago a couple of months I got the publication "Millennium Development Goals - Report 2010", dated in New York in June 2010 by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs United Nations, which are collected by the analysis status of the indicators proposed for monitoring the eight goals set by Member States of the United Nations Millennium purpose.
Portrait of the picture is conclusive either way. On the one hand, shows that in the first decade were major achievements for achieving the 18 goals set, but these achievements between 1998 and 2008 had a major setback in 2009, due in part to the global economic crisis, the energy crisis and food for the period 2008 to 2009, among other causes. However, the report invites and encourages the achievement of the MDGs, it considers that it is feasible to achieve, even in countries with greater difficulties.
In relation to reducing disaster risks, and in an earlier letter had broken the close relationship between the MDGs and this variable. In this regard, the report speaks for itself when it states that to the extent we invest in reducing disaster risks will be contributing to medium and long term and exponentially in achieving several of the MDGs beyond 2015. Read another way, those countries that invest little or nothing in reducing disaster risks, will have the greatest difficulties in achieving their goals.
Indeed, another of the variables in a significant percentage has negatively affected the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals in the last biennium have been disasters, but its effects have been mixed depending on the degree of development and maturity of the Risk Management processes. Estudes the difference between the effects of earthquakes in Chile and Haiti and find more answers.
Based on the evidence, can be held with all emphasis that the greatest effort to which the authorities and the organized community needs to be addressed to avoid slowing the progress achieved or nearly achieved. That is always the hardest, but that's where you have to apply every effort: to maintain high vaccination coverage with the strategies and teamwork that have been tried with success, maintaining low rates of maternal mortality, mortality child, and so on. Do everything possible to maintain these achievements.
The Summit on the MDGs to be held just in the month of September is an opportunity perfect for world leaders to confirm and deepen their commitment and translate the experience into a concrete plan of action, combining not only the will and knowledge, but actually working to consciousness, which involves resources, teamwork, mysticism, courage and compassion for humanity.
